What is Alpha Phi Omega?

Alpha Phi Omega is a national coeducational service organization founded on the principles of Leadership, Friendship and Service. It provides its members the opportunity to develop leadership skills as they volunteer on their campus, in their community, to the nation, and to the organization. With more than 400,000 members on over 375 campuses, Alpha Phi Omega continues to provide more service on more campuses than any other collegiate service organization.  (from apo.org/aboutus)

Who can join?

Membership is open to all SLU students! Yes, everyone! Don't let our use of the word 'brother' deter you. APO is a co-ed fraternity, meaning that we are open to all gender identities. 'Brother' is seen as a gender-ambiguous term in APO. Students of every year and major (grad students included!) are welcome to join us! You can even be in a social fraternity or sorority too!

Why should I join?

The Delta Delta chapter of Alpha Phi Omega is the largest student organization on Saint Louis University's campus. This means that not only will you be meeting tons of new friends; you'll also probably already know lots of people in it! We've got over 350 members in our chapter, but don't let our large size scare you. We place members into families where they can meet a smaller group of people and begin developing connections. Besides our size, our core principles of Leadership, Friendship, and Service ensure that you will become an active leader and servant in the SLU community, the St. Louis area, and in your future life. You will also be making strong connections with brothers within the chapter as well as with the people that you serve.

Does APO have a house?

No. No chapter of Alpha Phi Omega is permitted to have on-campus housing. However, we do have an office where you can come to hang out and meet us! Come visit us in the Busch Student Center, Suite 246.

Does APO haze?

Hazing is in direct contradiction with everything that Alpha Phi Omega stands for. Besides complying with Saint Louis University's and the national fraternity's anti-hazing policies, we just prefer a spirit of friendship with our new pledges.

What are the requirements to pledge?

Pledging is one of the best parts of APO. You will get involved in leadership, perform service, and meet many new friends! Delta Delta's pledge requirements include:
  • Obtaining 1 leadership point (see what counts)
  • Completing 20 hours of service, with 15 being required before Initiation
  • Completing 2 fellowship events, 1 of which must be with your family
  • Attending Make a Difference Day (fall semester) or Showers of Service (spring semester)
  • Attending all pledge chapter meetings
  • Leads APO LAUNCH course
  • $105 in dues for your pledge semester

What are the requirements once I'm an active member?

Your requirements change a little once you're an active member. Some increase, while others decrease:
  • Obtaining 1 leadership point (see what counts)
  • Completing 25 hours of service
  • Completing 3 fellowship events, 1 of which must be with your family
  • Attending Make a Difference Day (fall semester) or Showers of Service (spring semester)
  • Attending 11 chapter meetings throughout the semester
  • $60 in dues

Am I allowed to be in both APO and a social fraternity/sorority?

Yes, absolutely! There are many of our members who are involved in both. We like to see brothers who are involved in many different ways throughout campus. However, we don't recommend pledging both at the same time, as this can be a large number of requirements to fulfill all at once.

How do I join?

We're glad you asked! We have several fun rush events and information sessions so that you can learn more about us and get to know us! None are required, but they are highly encouraged so that you can get a better feel for the organization. And no, you don't need to compete with other pledges for a 'bid'. Everyone is welcome, as long as you fulfill the requirements. Head over to the Rush APO page for the full schedule or click here to add your email address to our interest list! Keep in mind that we only accept new pledges for the first couple of weeks each semester.
